Terms of Service
Last revised: 12 July 2026
Template notice. This document is a thorough draft, not legal advice. It must be reviewed by a qualified UK solicitor before launch. Replace every placeholder (marked [bracketed]) with real values.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Along (“the Service”), a web application for creating and sharing todo lists, operated by [your full legal name or company name](“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Acceptance of terms
By signing in or using the Service, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required by your SSO provider) to use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.
3. The Service
Along lets you create todo lists, add items with titles, context notes, and tags, and share lists with other users by email invite, with per-list roles (admin, editor, reader). We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time without notice. The Service is provided on a best-effort basis.
4. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You must provide accurate information when creating your account. Notify us at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access.
5. Operator access to your content — acknowledgement
You acknowledge and agree that the Service operator can access your note content. List titles, descriptions, todo titles, and context notes are encrypted at rest, but the operator holds the encryption key. The Service is not a zero-knowledge or end-to-end encrypted system.
The operator may access your content when necessary for providing the Service, investigating abuse or violations of these Terms, resolving support requests, or complying with legal obligations. The operator will not access content for unsolicited browsing.
If you require true end-to-end encryption where the operator cannot access your data, this Service is not suitable for your needs.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of all content you create in the Service (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display Your Content solely as necessary to operate the Service for you and your invited list members.
You are solely responsible for Your Content. You represent that you have the right to create and share it, and that it does not violate these Terms or any applicable law.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Store or share content that is illegal, infringing, defamatory, or harassing.
- Attempt to access another user’s lists without being invited as a member.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the encryption key or service credentials.
- Use the Service to store special-category personal data (health, racial origin, religious beliefs, biometric data, etc.) under UK GDPR Art. 10–11. The Service is not configured for the heightened protections such data requires.
- Disrupt or overload the Service with automated traffic, spam invites, or abuse of the realtime features.
8. Sharing and invited members
When you invite someone to a list, you are responsible for ensuring you have permission to share the content with them. The invitee gains access to all content in that list according to the role you assign. You are responsible for managing roles and removing members who should no longer have access.
9. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from Settings. You must first transfer or delete any lists you created. Account deletion is permanent and removes your membership from all lists.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if your activity creates risk to the Service or other users, or if required by law. We will provide notice where reasonably possible, except in cases of urgent security or legal concerns.
10. Disclaimers
Along is a personal side project built for fun and is not intended for serious, business-critical, or mission-critical use. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author accepts no liability for loss of data arising from your use of the Service.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that your data will never be lost. We do not warrant that the encryption measures described in our Privacy Policy will prevent all unauthorised access.
You are responsible for backing up any critical content. The Service is a convenience tool, not a primary data store of record.
11. Limitation of liability
Important:
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither party shall be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or business interruption arising from the use of or inability to use the Service.
The Service operator’s total aggregate liability arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim (currently [£0 if free / or the subscription amount]).
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, gross negligence, or breach of statutory data protection obligations under UK GDPR.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold the operator harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from Your Content or your violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the “last revised” date above. For material changes, we will notify you by email or an in-app notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that you may bring a claim in the courts of the EU member state in which you reside if you are a consumer resident in the EU, as required by EU law.
15. Contact
